This helmet was worn for only three years under the tenure of Coach Jack Chevigny before returning to the plain white leather helmet.

  Orange shell with white stripe
1951-1956
Only time that Texas has worn an orange helmet was during the tenure of Coach Ed Price. By 1956, Texas had a 1-9 record, and change was in the air for Coach Darrell Royal. Legend states that because of the 1-9 finish, Texas vowed never again to wear orange helmets...this cannot be confirmed, but Texas has worn white helmets since 1957. Helmet shells are Riddell RK.

Texas' traditional longhorn was added to the side of the helmet. Helmet shells are Riddell RK.

1963-1966
The orange stripe was finally deleted....never to return. Helmet shells are Macgregor and Riddell.

1969*
The "100" sticker, commemorating 100 years of college football, was worn by several teams in 1969. Baylor wore this sticker on the back of their helmets. UPDATE: Texas did not wear the 100 decals for every game in 1969, just these four: California, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and the 1970 Cotton Bowl against Notre Dame. Helmet shells are Macgregor and Riddell.

White shell with larger burnt orange longhorn silhouette on both sides, burnt orange numbers on back, gray facemask
1967-1976
Very much a mainstay for Texas football, the Longhorn decal was introduced during the tenure of Darrell Royal. Helmet shells are Macgregor and Riddell.

White shell with smaller burnt orange longhorn silhouette on both sides (slightly darker burnt orange than in the past), burnt orange numbers on back, white facemask
1977-Present
Only change to the helmet was the white facemask, instituted in the first year of coach Fred Akers. Helmet shells are Macgregor, Kelly, and after 1983, Riddell and Schutt.
